Words about time are diffusely engraved on black & white marble, in Italian and German language as the two cultures of this border region.
It's part of a City project about 'urban time'.
This chess platform will be used by the chess club of Bolzano that will organize matches and courses for people!
The project is born thinking on the idea of Marcel Duchamp to abandon art for chess game for ten years!! ...a real reflection on 'time', on how it stretches or not in daily life!
And the engraved words on time in Italian and German language...
underline also the confrontation between the two different cultures that are playing from many years in this area on the 'edge'.
The installation is produced thanks to the support of Josef Dalle Nogare... and will be given as gift to the city of Bolzano.

CHESS TIME / TIME INFLUENCE è una scacchiera di marmo di 64 metri quadri nel verde di un parco cittadino.
Parole sul tempo sono diffusamente incese sui marmi bianchi eneri, nelle lingue italiana e tedesca di questa regione di confine.
E' parte di un progetto cittadino sul 'tempo urbano'.
La scacchiera verrà gestita dal circolo degli scacchi di Bolzano, che organizzeranno un torneo e corsi di scacchi per la cittadinanza!
L'opera è nata pensando alla scelta di abbandono dell'arte per gli scacchi per 10 anni operata da Marcel Duchamp!! ...una vera meditazione rispetto al 'tempo', di come esso si dilata o si restringe nell'affanno quotidiano!
Poi ci sono le incisioni sulla scacchiera di parole dedicate al tempo in italiano e in tedesco...
si evidenzia anche il confronto fra i due ceppi linguistici, che 'giocano' ormai da molti anni questa partita in questa terra di 'confine'.
L'opera viene prodotta con il supporto di Josef Dalle Nogare... e verrà donata alla città di Bolzano.

CHESS TIME / TIME INFLUENCE, das Schachbrett des Mignone-Parks ist ein Werk des Künstlers STEFANO CAGOL und trägt den Titel “TIME INFLUENCE. CHESS TIME”. Das Werk ist im Rahmen des Projektes “Time Code” entstanden, das von der Stadt Bozen promoviert worden ist, um das Thema Zeit zu erforschen.
Das Werk ist als öffentliches Kunstwerk konzipiert, das ein breites Publikum ansprechen soll. Deshalb ist es möglich sich konkret mit dem Werk auseinanderzusetzen.
Der Künstler hat das Schachspiel als Symbol der Zeitausdehnung auserwählt, insbesondere wegen der starken Konzentration und dem Austausch mit dem Gegner. Das Spiel symbolisiert auch eine kritische Beziehung mit unserer alltäglichen Umwelt.
Es ist kein Zufall, dass Marcel Duchamp, Vater der zeitgenössischen Kunst, Kunst und Schachspiel als gleich wichtig erachtete und sich sogar für mehr als zehn Jahre von der Kunstwelt entfernte, um sich Schachmeisterschaften – auch auf Olympia-Ebene – zu widmen.
Stefano Cagol hat das Werk dank der wichtigen Unterstützung von Josef Dalle Nogare Collection realisieren können und gemeinsam schenken sie es der Stadt als permanente Installation.
