INTRODUCTION
The project was born from the video Stars & Stripes projected at the Civic Gallery for Contemporary Art of Trento, Italy, within the show New Italian Space in 2002. The video is an elaboration of the American flag waving in the wind: the flag, shot in New York in '99, is doubled and from a military banner becomes a flying butterfly, until you cannot recognize it any more (see the attached essay by Fabio Cavallucci, artistic director of the Civic Gallery for Contemporary Art, Trento, Italy)
A re-editing of the same video is a one-man project in February and March 2005 at the Platform Gallery of London curated by Mami Kataoka, senior curator of the Mori Museum of Art, Tokyo, Japan. It is a wall-projection titled lies to underline the contradictions we are living, our unsafe cultural and social values. Contradictions which are symbolized by the extreme and continuous esthetic mutability of a flag in the new version of the video.

PROJECT
The extreme development, conceptually "THE END" of the project, will be white flag, the hoisting of a flag in various "strategic" points on the earth, in a totalizing act.
The choice of the flag, which one and where... has brought somewhat of a conscious dilemma. The solution resides in the addition of all the colors: i.e. white!
The white flag, white in which all colors of the flags of the different nations are cancelled and added, white which in a universal view joins Western to Eastern culture in their incapacity of reacting, in their sadness of acknowledging a difficult moment. It is the sign of an absurdly conflicting society surrendering right now. It is a defeat when seen as a stage under continuous siege, permeable to the teachings of past events. A symbolic act, but at the same time totalizing in its essential purity.
IT IS THE SURRENDER OF ART WHICH IS SO POWERLESS, HELPLESS, IN FRONT OF... NEVER ENDING SLAUGHTERS AND HOLOCAUSTS.
This is not a merely pacifist project... but an action aiming to be a clear and definitive "mirror" of the terminal state of things, of the impossibility of intervening to stop the development of events, the precarious future of man, unable to evolve on this planet. White for a new rebirth.

LOCATIONS
The locations where the flag will be hoisted will have to be meaningful sites, spaces dedicated to art, a symbolic theater of past and present wars, public places, high and visible sites.
Various international Museums and curators of different countries will be involved to give body and to widen the project, by keeping in mind the collaboration of the Civic Gallery for Contemporary Art in Trento, as the organizing seat.

INTRODUCTION
Il progetto nasce dal video Stars & Stripes, proiettato alla Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art of Trento, Italy, nella collettiva Nuovo Spazio Italiano nel 2002. Il video è l'elaborazione di una bandiera americana mossa dal vento: la bandiera, ripresa a New York nel '99, è sdoppiata e da stendardo militare diviene farfalla in volo, fino a diventare irriconoscibile. Un re-editing dello stesso video è un solo project in febbraio e marzo 2005 alla Platform Gallery di Londra a cura di Mami Kataoka, senior curator Mori Museum of Art, Tokyo, Japan. E' una wall-projection e il titolo è lies, per sottolineare la contraddittorietà del momento attuale, l'insicurezza di valori culturali e sociali. Questa contraddittorietà è del resto già simboleggiata dall'estrema e continua mutabilità estetica del movimento della bandiera nella nuova versione del video.

PROJECT
Lo sviluppo estremo, concettualmente "LA FINE" del progetto, sarà white flag,l'issaggio di una bandiera in diversi punti "strategici" della terra, in un atto totalizzante.
La scelta della bandiera, di quale issare e dove... ha aperto un dibattito interiore e non. La soluzione è nella somma di tutti i colori: il risultato è il bianco!
La bandiera è bianca, un bianco in cui si annullanno e si sommano tutti i colori delle bandiere delle diverse nazioni, un bianco che in un'ottica universale unisce la cultura occidentale a quella orientale nell'incapacità di reagire, nell'amarezza della constatazione di un momento difficile. E' il segno di resa della società nei confronti del momento attuale, assurdamente conflittuale. Di sconfitta nei confronti di uno stato di belligeranza continuo, permeabile alle lezioni degli eventi del passato. Un atto simbolico, ma al tempo stesso totalizzante nella sua essenziale purezza.
E' LA RESA DELL'ARTE, CHE RISULTA COSI' IMPOTENTE, INERME, DI FRONTE A STRAGI ED OLOCAUSTI... MAI FINITI.
Questo non è un progetto meramente pacifista... ma un'azione che vuole essere "specchio" chiaro e definitivo dello stato terminale delle cose, dell'impossibilità di intervenire e di fermare il rincorrersi degli eventi, il precario futuro dell'uomo, incapace di evolvere su questo pianeta. Bianco per una nuova rinascita.

LOCATIONS
Le location dove issare la bandiera bianca dovranno essere luoghi significativi, spazi dedicati all'arte, teatri o simboli di guerre passate e presenti, luoghi pubblici, punti elevati e visibili.
Verranno così coinvolti diversi Musei Internazionali e curatori di diversi paesi per dare corpo ed ampliare il progetto, tenendo la collaborazione della Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art of Trento come base organizzativa.
