«Tra i ghiacci ho innescato fiamme incendiando un dolcissimo profumo, da pochi soldi, in bomboletta. Una paradossale ed emblematica immagine, un’azione che metaforicamente fonde i poli. Sono arrivato sul bordo dello Jakobshavns Isfjord (Kangia in lingua inuit). Ho camminato tra la nebbia, in un’atmosfera di un altro pianeta. In modo abbastanza intuitivo, mi sono avventurato e arrampicato su rocce ghiacciate, con visibilità limitata, fino ad arrivare a quello che pareva un affaccio eccezionale. Ore di attesa, cerimonie e danze, nella nebbia, fino all’apparizione di un iceberg maestoso, che lentamente ruotava e si spostava verso il mare.» 9-22.03.2024, Ilulissat, Groenlandia

Raccontato da un saggio di Timothy Morton, We Are the Flood è un progetto multi-sito esteso ai quattro angoli del pianeta, tra deserti, giungle primordial e iceberg millenari, guardando al molto prima di noi e pensando al dopo. Spingendosi lontano dai segni della civiltà attuale, a confronto con manifestazioni geologiche, naturali e umane, ha esorcizzato l’aggressività dell’essere umano contemporaneo, in un mare di fosca nebbia artificiale o con bombolette spray di dolce profumo che si rivelano armi di fuoco.

«In the ice, I triggered flames to ignite a very sweet perfume, a cheap one, in a spray can. A paradoxical and emblematic image, an action that metaphorically melts the poles. I arrived at the edge of the Jakobshavns Isfjord (Kangia in the Inuit language). I walked through the fog, in the atmosphere of another planet. Quite intuitively, I ventured and climbed on frozen rocks, with limited visibility, until I reached what seemed like an exceptional view. Hours of waiting, ceremonies and dances, in the fog, until the appearance of a majestic iceberg, which slowly rotated and moved towards the sea». 9-22.03.2024, Ilulissat, Greenland

Completed by an essay by Timothy Morton, We Are the Flood is an extensive multi-site project in the four corners of the planet, among deserts, primordial jungles, and millennial icebergs, looking back to the long before us and contemplating the aftermath. The artist has exorcised the aggression of contemporary humanity, with fire on one hand and a drone remote control in the other.
